A bit of blurb about The Dipsticks....

Normally performing as a three-peice but are in transistional mode due to currently lacking a drummer, mainstays PATRICK BEGLEY (Guitar, vocals, pen) and MARK MCKENDRICK (bass) continue in partnership and will shortly be rehearsing with ALAN MCCULLOCH with a view to stealing your musical hearts some more at various RTYD venues and our own fan nights at The Constituion Pub.

Our previous drummer ANGELA IERODIACONOS is goimg through huge career/life changing mode at the present time and has had to knock drumming on the head for a while. We love you and miss you, Honey - it was great having you in you band and as I'm sure you know: the door's always open - even if it means having two drummers!!!

In the meantime welcome to the fold Alan - we're looking forward to resuming where we left off!!!

Yes folks, Alan has drummed with us before in the mid nineties - indeed, he was our very first drummer as a three-piece. The thing then was that it was only supposed to have been a one-off gig and Alan did us the favour of that performance. Alan was a busy bloke at the time and when we were asked to perform more dates it was neccessary to find someone else to ride the throne. Mark Stevens commited for a while but found himself busier and busier and what with having to come down from the Midlands all of the time, fulfilling live commitments became more and more difficult.

But going back still further....

DIPSTICKS started life in the late seventies as a classic four-piece group - with current Smell Funky Beast members Toby Nuttall and John Grant on guitar and drums respectively - but after a couple of years enthusiasm waned through lack of interest by management and record companies - the band never really dropped suitably into any saleable pocket. Although the punters always loved us; sad as it is, love never paid the rent!

The band has always been based around - and features in the main - the songs of songwriter/singer/guitarist PATRICK BEGLEY - with bassist and cohort MARK MCKENDRICK always a steadfast believer in the material. With that relationship firmly anchored the songs have been performed again in the nineties and noughties.

Patrick and Mark hooked up with former drummer ANGEL IERODIACONOS in 2008. Given Angie's enthusiasm and natural sense of rhythm decided to make it a fix, and after a couple of successful well recieved perfomances resurrected THE DIPSTICKS band name.

What was one of the best, or most memorable, gigs you ever went to, played, or put on?
In their own words...

PATRICK finds this a bit of a poser...

"Best Gig? I don't know, man. How can I choose between Led Zep at the Albert Hall in 1969, Hendrix at Woburn Abbey 1968, The Grateful Dead playing for five hours at the Bickershaw festival in 1972, or Sonny Landreth at the Borderline May 17th 2009....

....The Who at the Isle of Wight both 69 and 70. Jeff back at the Shepherds Bush Empire with Jennifer Batten whichever year that was. two thousand and something or other...."

Wow!!!

MARK has difficulty with this too....

"Possibly the most enjoyable was on 19th March 2009 - the eighth night of the Allman Brothers 40th Anniversary Beacon Run in New York. Eric Clapton was guest for the evening. Think about it.

It's great when everything isn't in the past!"

ANGIE....

"One of the best gig's I've ever been to was to see Angie Stone at The Jazz Cafe in Camden's Parkway. She was amazing, her band were fabulous and the atmosphere was buzzing.....and I was right at the front!!!!"
What is, or was, your favourite venue? Tell us about it, if you like?
PATRICK SEZ....

Best venues...? The intimate ones: Borderline, Dingwalls even Shepherds Bush and of course BB Kings Club in New York City. Best sound probably in Bearsville upstate New York

MARK SEZ....

"My favouite venues are the Royal Albert Hall, London, and the Beacon Theatre, NY. I've seen some great concerts at those venues. The sound is great in every part of those rooms. I do like a good club vibe, though. Ronnie's is consistently great. 100 Club, too. Also like the Jazz Cafe."

ANGIE SEZ....

"My favourite venue is The Jazz Cafe, purely because of it's size...it's not too big and it's not too small!!!!....The restaurant serve good food and they always have a DJ after any gig, which is great if you want to carry on getting down!!!!
